Antique Stores Galore

I've been antiquing for the past several months in search for a piece of furniture for my bathroom. Our home was the premiere farm house back in the early 1800's and my husband and I have tried to stay true to the vision it once held. I must say we have put our time in and in our efforts of restoration we've replaced much of what was once tattered and torn, from the tin stamped ceilings to the original hard wood floors... the whole gamut. We've recently decided to revamp the downstairs bathroom and in doing so we'd like to put the bathroom sink on top a classic piece of furniture but finding one hasn't been so easy.

There is an charming antique shop called Jan's Antique off of Racine, in Chicago's meat packing district. There we've found most of our lighting and different odds and ends. However, the place we discovered this weekend truly is a treasure.

Sunday afternoon we spontaneously set out on our adventure. My girlfriend Adrienne suggest we drive to La Porte, Indiana, where she had been once before claiming it had made an impression, but she didn't quite know how to get there. Thank goodness for iPhones and GPS!

As we drove down Lincolnway in La Porte our eyes lit up with anticipation, it was one antique shop after another. Much to our disappointment most were closed. In fact it was like stepping back in time being that most of the town was closed as well. Luckily there were a few shops open. The first one we entered was the Coachman Antique Mall, I felt like a kid in a candy store and not just any candy store more like WillyWonka's factory! The store smelt like a freshly baked pie not musty or moldy like other store I'd been to and there was an endless sea of furniture, lighting, clothes and more. All in great condition and priced to sell... not to mention there were three floors! It was probably a good thing there were only a few stores open that day! Let's just say I didn't go home empty handed.
